THE LIVING LIBRARY
The Living Library / a two-part documentary investigation / original-document atlas

MKULTRA.
The surviving record.

The CIA's experiments did not end with a single codename. Decades later, Epstein's research relationships present a separate body of documents that demands its own examination, without borrowing conclusions from an earlier intelligence program.

Part I / 1950 to the present

What MKULTRA was. What followed.

BLUEBIRD and ARTICHOKE preceded MKULTRA. The Senate later identified MKSEARCH as its continuation and recorded OFTEN/CHICKWIT work. The inquiry follows original program records, destroyed files, congressional oversight and later intelligence abuses whose organizational relationship must be assessed separately.

Part II / The Epstein files

The files, the scientists, the connections.

Epstein's research donations and institutional access are documented in MIT and Harvard investigations. This part compares identifiable people, grants, dates and institutions against public MKULTRA documentation and records what has actually been established, while refusing to manufacture a program link.

Original records / investigation protocol

Two bodies of evidence, with one source register.

An intelligence program recorded in congressional hearings and a criminal investigation documented in decades of court and institutional records cannot be connected by repeating an allegation. Each asserted connection must specify what activity occurred, which original document records it and what that document can actually establish.

The historical records already establish a direct successor relationship between MKULTRA and MKSEARCH. The Epstein files are being examined as a distinct collection: public releases include documents with inconsistent text extraction and redactions, so a keyword hit must be checked in the actual page and an empty search cannot close an inquiry.

Research register, October 18, 2026: 67 documentary source identifiers and 149 source-linked claims are recorded. All 149 numbered subprojects have preliminary CIA-source summaries, with original authorization, expenditure and participant documentation varying by subproject. Twelve program dossiers and 67 historical records-request entries are indexed; none of the requests has been submitted. Three Epstein EFTA file-ID leads remain conditional on original-page verification. The reviewed sources establish no direct MKULTRA-to-Epstein operational connection. The underlying archives have not been exhaustively searched.
